Updated Microsoft email sending
What’s changing?
Microsoft are ending support for “basic authentication” (i.e. giving us your username and password) when sending emails. Instead, they want everyone to use a more modern approach where you log into your Microsoft account to authorise Light Blue to send emails. This applies to all Microsoft email services, including Exchange, outlook.com, and hotmail.com.
What do you need to do?
If you’re not using a Microsoft email account to send emails from Light Blue, you don’t need to do anything!
If you are using a Microsoft email account to send emails from Light Blue, we have built a new Microsoft email integration that takes care of this by using Microsoft’s latest email sending API, so all you need to do is add your Microsoft email account to Light Blue again using our new integration.
How do you do that?
- Log into your account on our website.
- Go to the email settings page.
- Click the “Add a new Microsoft email account” button. Give it a description that allows you to distinguish it from your previous Microsoft email account (e.g. “Microsoft API name@example.com”).
- You’ll be asked to log into your Microsoft email account and then authorise Light Blue to be able to send emails.
- When you’ve completed this authorisation process, you’ll be returned to our email settings page. If any errors occurred, there should be a red error message at the top of the page: please let us know if this happens!
- Assuming there weren’t any setup errors, click the “Test this outgoing mail server…” link.
- Assuming the test worked, go into Light Blue, create a new email to yourself, and test sending it via the account you’ve just added.
If you have any problems adding your Microsoft email account again, please let us know: we’re here to help.
Is there anything else that I need to do?
Once you’ve added your Microsoft email account via our new integration and tested it, you should check whether you need to tell Light Blue to use this new integration as your default email server:
- Open the Preferences window in the Light Blue desktop app.
- Go to the Email section.
- Check your “Default Email Server” setting. If it’s set to use your previous Microsoft email account, change it to the new integration.
- Go to the Shoot Types section and click on the “Email & Client Portal” tag. If the “Email Server” setting uses your previous Microsoft email account, change it to the new integration. Repeat this for all of your shoot types.
Tidying up
Once you’re satisfied that your new Microsoft email integration is working, we’d recommend removing the old one to avoid any confusion in future. You can do this via the email settings page in your account on our website.
